Over 1,000 Cartons of Milk Keep Stirling 10K Runners Moo-ving

Graham’s Family Dairy supplied over 500 litres of milk for runners taking part in this year’s
Stirling 10k race.

Scotland’s largest independent dairy provided 1,100 cartons of milk to support the recovery of
runners competing in this year’s Stirling 10k, which saw the event’s biggest ever turnout.
1,300 athletes signed up to take part in the 10,000m race yesterday (Sunday 8 September), with
a further 120 children racing in the two different fun runs. Runners were able to milk the moment
with a carton of Graham’s milk after crossing the finish line.

Fionnuala Ross (Shettleston Harriers) was the quickest female in the 10k with a time of 33:17,
while Jamie Crowe (Central AC) took gold amongst the men with a time of 29:42 – both were
presented with a gold medal and a bottle of Graham’s Gold Top milk.

The sponsorship of the local running event forms part of a wider initiative from Graham’s Family
Dairy to use its nutritional products to support and educate exercisers across the UK, with the
dairy firm now being the largest UK based supplier of protein pouch products.

Robert Graham, Managing Director at Graham’s Family Dairy said:
“Creating products that are healthy and nutritious is a huge priority for us at Graham’s Family
Dairy. As a family, exercise and looking after ourselves has been something that’s been ingrained
in us from a young age and we want to offer tasty products that mirror those healthy values.
Local events like the Stirling 10k give people in the area a great opportunity to challenge
themselves so we’re delighted we can play a small part in that.
“Increasingly, across our traditional milk and protein range, we’re seeing more and more people
use Graham’s as a way to recover from a tough workout – so we hope the runner’s legs are a
little less sore the morning after once they’ve had a classic carton of milk!”

The Podfather Stirling 10km Road Race and Fun Runs, presented by Central Athletic Club, took
place on Sunday 8 September 2024 at its well-established course. This year’s event once again
hosted the Scottish Athletics 10k Road Race Championships.

Lewis Millar, Race Director from Stirling 10k said:
“In what was our biggest ever race, it’s been so valuable to get support from businesses with
such a strong presence in the local area. The 10k in Stirling has become such a social event
and one where people are able to run together and push their limits. Working with Graham’s
to provide much needed nutrition has added an extra little perk for runners looking to
recover. We’re looking forward to hundreds of runners coming back next year to beat their
PBs!”

Andrew Shepherd, Performance Nutrition Lead at Loughborough University, a partner of
Graham’s Family Dairy, said:
“Post-race recovery is crucial for reducing muscle soreness and replenishing energy stores. To
maximise recovery, it’s recommended to refuel within 30 minutes of finishing exercise. Research
indicates that a combination of protein and carbohydrates is most effective for this purpose.
Additionally, rehydration is essential to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Graham’s Family Dairy
milk is an excellent choice for optimal recovery, providing approximately 20g of carbohydrates
and 20g of protein per pint. Studies have shown that it is more hydrating than sports drinks,
making it an ideal option for post-exercise rehydration.”

On top of traditional dairy products, Graham’s Family Dairy has seen great success for its protein
dairy products, like its Protein 25 pouches, Protein 22 confectionary pots and Greek Yogurt
pouches. Graham’s Family Dairy have now seen sales of protein and Skyr products overtake
sales of conventional milk in major supermarkets, with protein products now equating to around a
quarter of its sales.
