Initially launched in 2013, the Disability Confident scheme is a voluntary programme created by the Minister of Disability as well as representatives of those with a disability, in order to allow employers to become more knowledgeable regarding the employment and development of disabled people. Additionally, becoming Disability Confident helps Graham’s to ensure that the recruitment process is both accessible and inclusive by offering an interview to those with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy. The company have also committed to providing the necessary adjustments for individuals with a disability or health condition in order to allow them to continue working regularly.
There are also many benefits for Graham’s of becoming a Disability Confident company, including the ability to select from a wider pool of talent amongst those with a disability whilst recruiting. By widening the knowledge of the company regarding the recruitment, training and development of disabled people, Graham’s can create a pathway to employment and remove any obstacles that may have previously existed for individuals with a disability or health condition. In addition, becoming Disability Confident also allows Graham’s employees to receive the required assistance to enable them to reach their full potential at work, benefiting both the employee and the business.
At Graham’s we believe that it is our social responsibility to be Disability Confident in order to employ a workforce that reflects our community.
