Graham’s reward top performing farmers

Graham’s The Family Dairy celebrated farming excellence by awarding a host of prizes at their annual dinner on Tuesday 10 December 2013. Graham’s The Family Dairy recognised some of their most consistent and high performing farmers in two categories, Bactoscan and Somatic Cell Count (SCC).

In first prize for the lowest annual count of Bactoscan was awarded to John W Howie & Sons of Bringan Farm, Kilmarnock with a yearly average of 11.08, a prize he also claimed in 2009 and 2010. Second place went to John Brown & Son of East Gartmillan Farm in Glenmavis, Airdrie with a 12 month average of 11.21. W & A Watson of The Muir Farm, Mauchline claimed third place with a yearly average of 12.63. The Watsons had previously won this category in 2011 and 2012.   Bactoscan measures the amount of bacteria present in the milk.

In the Somatic Cell Count category, which determines the quality of milk, W & G Mitchell of Corscaplie Farm, Dunblane took first prize for the second year running, with a 12 month average of 103.16. Second prize went to Billy & Graeme Kilpatrick, Craigie Mains, Kilmarnock with a yearly average of 125.04. The Kilpatrick’s took home first prize for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011 and runner up prize in 2012.  William & Tom Smith of Bottoms Farm, Stewarton claimed third place with a 12 month average of 132.97, they were also awarded this place in 2011.
