Graham’s The Family Dairy launches Scottish cheddar cheese

Scotland largest independent dairy company, Graham’s The Family Dairy, has dedicated a six-figure investment to extend its product offering with the launch of a range of Scottish cheddar cheese.

The popular Bridge of Allan-based farming and dairy business has introduced Graham’s Mild Red Cheddar, Graham’s Mature White Cheddar and Graham’s Extra Mature White Cheddar made from Scotland’s freshest milk.  This is the dairy’s first entry into cheese in its 74-year history and its first new product launch since the introduction of Graham’s Spreadable Butter in 2011.

Available in 200g and 350g re-sealable packs, Graham’s Scottish cheddar cheese is immediately available in selected Dobbies farm food halls across Scotland as well as independent retailers including Margiotta.  Graham’s cheese will be listed in Scottish Sainsbury’s stores from July, Tesco and Spar during August then more than 50 Asda stores in October.  Consumers will also gain a taste of the new cheese during this week’s Royal Highland Show.

Dr Graham, chairman of Graham’s The Family Dairy and son of the original founder, commented:  “At Graham’s, we are always looking to extend our quality product offering to our retail customers and our consumers who have continually requested cheese, so we are now meeting that demand.

“We felt there was a real gap in the category for a quality Scottish cheddar cheese and have spent considerable time researching the market.  By working with an experienced cheese grader we have selected three cheddar cheeses that match the taste profile of our family and our extended family, our customers.

“Cheddar cheese is an economical essential in the family’s weekly grocery shop and makes a convenient snack and brilliant cooking ingredient.  This is a very exciting development for the family business.”

The UK cheese category is worth £2.5bn and growing 2.9 per cent year-on-year, with cheddar accounting for more than 50 per cent of the market.  Cheese is a natural extension to the current Graham’s branded product portfolio of milk, butter, cream and ice-cream.

Edinburgh-based brand agency, threebrand has strategically created its eye-catching cream packaging providing extra shelf stand out, while reflecting the colourings of a traditional creamery.
