Family Dairy invests in new
Port Dundas Depot

Graham’s, the family dairy, has opened a new depot in Port Dundas following a six-figure refurbishment of the site. The depot, which employs over 40 staff in delivery and administration roles, will be used to serve Graham’s customers in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. The Bridge of Allan-based company is also actively recruiting additional drivers and staff for a range of positions at the depot.

The rapidly-growing company – now Scotland’s largest independent dairy company and the seventh largest milk processor in the UK – has relocated its Glasgow operation to the former Welcome Car Finance site at Port Dundas from its existing Hamilton depot. The three-acre site has undergone substantial redevelopment and improvement including the installation of a new computer and telephone system, cold storage and the creation of new loading bays. Graham’s plans to further expand the depot over the next year.

Managing director Robert Graham jnr said: “The depot at Port Dundas provides us with a much more central location in Glasgow. The city and its surrounding areas are a large and important market for us and our new depot will enable us to further enhance the high standard of customer service we provide to our clients within the region. “Port Dundas is a welcome addition to our network of regional depots in Fife, Ayrshire and Angus, all of which support our Bridge of Allan dairy and are essential in allowing us to provide customers with a localised service.”

Graham’s customers mainly operate in the ‘middle ground’ market of hotels, restaurants, nursing homes, independent retailers, schools and the catering trade. The company also continues to grow its presence in the multiples market, most recently securing a contract to supply Graham’s branded organic milk, butter and cream to Scotland’s first Waitrose stores which opened in Edinburgh on 1 June. In 2005, the company won a major contract to supply its organic milk range to 30 Sainsbury stores in Scotland and the North of England.
